The one secret the weight loss industry doesn't want you to know

Courtney Ley

Sacrifice!!

Lets me honest, it's a shit word.

No one wants to make sacrifices.

No one wants to miss out on anything…me included.

People often want to preach about how with this diet, or that diet you don’t have to sacrifice anything.

You will still be able to eat what you love and rarely have to exercise.

I've heard some recently that talk about getting into amazing shape without having to cut back on your alcohol intake!

Now if that worked I would be the first on that train.

However sadly we have all tried these and the short of it is - it just doesn’t work like that.

Anyone who has experienced their own transformation will tell you that there is always going to be a certain amount of sacrifice and pain that goes along with a lifestyle change.

Not quite as glamorous as when you say it like that, is it? That’s probably why the marketing people in my industry want to pull the wool over your eyes and tell you how little it will affect you.

Now I don’t want to get dramatic – committing to changing your body, mind and health is NOT going to ruin your life, but the truth is that changes do and will need to happen, and they’re not always going to be the kinds of changes you’re going to be excited about.

In fact, some of them will be quite challenging and confronting.

Working out several times a week is not always pleasant. Especially when you’ve had a massive day at work, and the last thing you feel like doing is working out!

Workouts are hard, the ones that really help change your body...they hurt – again not something people want to talk about. It doesn’t exactly make you jump up and get excited about heading to the gym…well unless that’s your thing ;) But it certainly isn’t mine!

Watching what you eat is also not the most exciting thing to do. It’s annoying a lot of the time!

Of course you’re not on a diet so you can have a couple of treat meals a week. But what if you’ve had those treat meals and there is your favourite take away sitting in front of you.

This is where sacrifice comes in.

Yes, that word we all hate.

My husband told me once – you can do anything you want to do, as long as you’re ok with the outcome.

It’s annoying how right he is sometimes ;)

Sacrifice is always going to be the dark side of any lifestyle change. It goes in waves – up one minute and down the next.

Excited one minute and annoying the next.

Sacrifice will always come at some point.

Whether its not eating that take away you want, because you already ate out a couple of times this week or delaying watching your favourite TV show or that awesome new movie that's out because you have to make up for your missed workout yesterday.

The thing to remember is that sacrifice hits us all at one point or another.

Will it annoy and possibly upset you – absolutely!

But just like the wave it will pass.

And when that day comes where you put on those jeans you bought a while ago and now they fit?

It was all worth it :)
